Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL) was set up in 1939 by the governments of New Zealand, Britain and Australia, and its flying boats began Auckland-Sydney flights in April 1940. New Zealand took full ownership in April 1961, and on 1 April 1965 the airline was renamed Air New Zealand, which is why stickers like this reminded passengers of the old name as they labelled their luggage.
