PHILIPPINE AIR LINES circles this roundel in white on red and blue, around a yellow sun, palm trees, a figure and a compass rose crossed by a winged emblem with the airline's name. The two-word Air Lines was the original spelling: the company was founded on February 26, 1941, and flew its first service from Manila to Baguio on March 15 that year with a Beechcraft Model 18. After the war, PAL became the first Asian airline to fly across the Pacific, from Manila to Oakland.
