A tall cactus rises against a blue sky, surrounded by tropical flowers, in this Air France poster for the Antilles and Central America, dated around 1950. Its artist is not recorded with certainty. After the Second World War Air France greatly extended its long-haul network, and posters like this one introduced French travelers to newer, more distant destinations, the French Caribbean islands among them. The design follows the airline's poster formula of the period: one strong, dreamlike image of the destination and very few words.
