This 1962 Air France poster for London and Great Britain builds its scene from bold blocks of color: an abstract figure in a tall bearskin hat, the classic guardsman's silhouette, stands before Big Ben. It belongs to the airline's early-1960s run of modernist destination posters, when simplified shapes and flat color replaced the painterly scenes of the 1950s. The artist is not recorded in the sources we could check. Paris–London was one of Air France's oldest routes; as early as 1936 the airline was advertising the crossing in an hour and a half.
