Avianca's 1960 "Colombia" poster sets delicate orchids against a cream ground beside a gleaming gold figure, pairing Colombia's national flower, the orchid, with a golden form that suggests the country's celebrated pre-Columbian goldwork. Avianca traces its history to SCADTA, founded in Barranquilla on December 5, 1919, which makes it one of the oldest airlines in the world still flying. Around the time this poster appeared the airline was entering the jet age, adding its own Boeing 720B jets in 1961. The artist is not recorded.
