Kilted Highland dancers step out across a teal ground while a Speedbird airliner passes overhead in this BOAC poster for Scotland. The artist is not recorded. BOAC was mainly an intercontinental airline, but Scotland had a real place on its map: in the 1950s its transatlantic services between London and New York called at Prestwick on the Ayrshire coast, making Scotland the first or last stop for many North American visitors. The poster invites them to linger for the dancing, pipes and tartan.
