The Speedbird arrow sweeps across a globe on a field of blue in this postwar BOAC poster carrying the slogan "It's a small world by Speedbird." The line was used on several BOAC designs from the mid-1940s into the 1950s, many printed by McCorquodale of London. The Speedbird itself, a stylized bird drawn as a swift arrow, was the emblem BOAC inherited from Imperial Airways and also served as its radio callsign. Formed in 1940, BOAC was Britain's state long-haul airline, and in the years after the war it set out to make the whole globe feel within reach.
