A sleek de Havilland Comet glides over a sunset sky on this small BOAC label, which invites travelers to "Fly by Comet with BOAC." On 2 May 1952 BOAC flew the world's first jet airliner passenger service, carrying 36 passengers from London to Johannesburg aboard a Comet. The pioneering jet was withdrawn after two accidents in 1954, but its brief reign changed air travel forever. Airlines handed out labels like this one for passengers to stick on their luggage.
