Sugarloaf Mountain rises over a beach of striped umbrellas on a crisp white ground in this 1950s Braniff International Airways poster for Brazil. The artist is not recorded. Braniff opened its Latin American network in June 1948 and pushed it across the continent, with Douglas DC-6 service to Rio de Janeiro beginning in March 1949. Rio's granite peak and its beaches made the city instantly recognizable, and Braniff returned to them again and again in its colorful posters of the decade.
