A carnival dancer balancing a basket brings Rio de Janeiro to life on a white ground in this 1950s Braniff International Airways poster. The artist is not recorded. Braniff reached Rio in March 1949, flying Douglas DC-6s, less than a year after the Dallas airline took the name Braniff International Airways and opened its routes to Latin America. Its Rio posters of the 1950s leaned on the city's best-known images, from Sugarloaf and Copacabana to the music and costume of Carnival.
