A cheerful cartoon airliner in British Air Ferries colours, with 'BAF' on its tail, flies inside a red-ringed oval lettered 'Southend' above and 'Jersey-Guernsey' below. British Air Ferries took that name on October 1, 1967, the year it moved its headquarters to Southend Airport, and its scheduled network reached the Channel Islands and the Continent. In the early 1980s it bought British Airways' entire fleet of 18 retired Viscounts, becoming the world's largest Viscount operator, before renaming itself British World Airlines in 1993.
