Red bands top and bottom carry the name British United Airways, framing a black panel with a pale, swept-wing arrow emblem set inside a circle. BUA was formed in July 1960 from the merger of Airwork and Hunting-Clan Air Transport, and from its Gatwick base it became the largest wholly private airline in Britain. It launched the BAC One-Eleven with an order in May 1961 and began VC10 services in October 1964, before Caledonian Airways took it over on November 30, 1970. Passengers received labels like this to stick on their bags.
