A winged lion sits at the heart of this round BWIA label, surrounded by a map of routes linking the Caribbean islands, with British West Indian Airways spelled out along the bottom. The airline was established in 1939 by New Zealander Lowell Yerex and began flying on 27 November 1940, with its main base at Piarco in Trinidad. It later became BWIA International Airways and flew until 31 December 2006, when Caribbean Airlines took its place. Passengers received labels like this to decorate their luggage.
