Black on orange, this roundel shows a twin-engine, twin-tailed airliner flying above a winged shield marked Fly C&S, all framed by the words Chicago & Southern Air Lines. Travellers were handed labels like this to put on their luggage. Founded in 1933 and later headquartered in Memphis, C&S flew the Valley Level Route from Chicago to New Orleans, added DC-4 services to Havana, Kingston and Caracas after the war, and joined Delta in 1953.
