A Delta Douglas DC-8-61 Fan-Jet cruises above a bright layer of clouds in this horizontal airline poster. The DC-8-61 was the stretched "long, thin" version of the DC-8, and Delta, which in 1959 had been the first airline to fly the original DC-8, ordered three in 1966 before raising the order to nine by that December; it eventually operated 13. United put the type into service first, in February 1967, and Delta followed with the first transcontinental flights on 18 April 1967. Delta flew its DC-8-61s on southern transcontinental routes linking San Francisco and Los Angeles with Atlanta, Miami, Dallas and Orlando. The artist is not recorded.
