Delta Air Lines promoted Germany and its Frankfurt gateway with this 1978 poster, painted in a soft, impressionistic style. A castle crowns a hillside above the Rhine, its towers catching the light while the river curves below, the kind of romantic river-valley view that has drawn travelers to the Rhineland for generations. The painterly brushwork links it with Delta's other easel-style posters of the period, such as Denver and Miami. The artist is not recorded on our copy. It dates from the era when Delta, long a domestic carrier, was beginning to reach across the Atlantic to Europe.
