Delta Air Lines used photography for this 1990 poster promoting India, and few subjects could be more striking. The Taj Mahal, the white marble mausoleum built at Agra by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, is shown at dusk, its dome and minarets glowing against a darkening sky. The calm, symmetrical composition lets the monument speak for itself. The photographer is not recorded on our copy. The poster belongs to a set of Delta photographic designs from the same year in this collection, alongside Greece and Russia, from the period when the airline was expanding its international reach.
