A pale twin-engine airliner glides across a blue oval lettered Flying the Trans-Southern Route, above Delta's early winged emblem with a red triangle at its heart. Trans-Southern was Delta's name for its east-west line across the South: in 1934 the airline won Air Mail Route 24 from Charleston, South Carolina, to Fort Worth, Texas, starting mail service on 4 July with Stinson Model T aircraft and carrying passengers again from 5 August. Labels like this travelled on suitcases along that route.
