Frank Lacano's 1951 poster for TWA shows Florence from the Arno: the shops of the Ponte Vecchio stacked along the old bridge, the city's towers and tiled roofs behind, and rowboats slipping beneath the arches while a Lockheed Constellation crosses a deep blue sky. A copy is held in the collection of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. It comes from the years when TWA's transatlantic service was opening Italy to a new generation of American travelers.
