Cut to a shield shape, this version of the Hawaiian Airlines outrigger label shows a canoe with a striped sail riding the waves while a propliner flies past the palms, all framed by the Hawaiian Airlines script in red and blue. The airline began life as Inter-Island Airways in 1929 and became Hawaiian Airlines on October 1, 1941. Its Douglas DC-3s, which joined the fleet that year, were the island workhorses of the era this art evokes.
