This wide harbor view sells Hong Kong as the "Riviera of the Orient," a seaside resort for the steamship age. The design is credited to S. D. Panaiotaky and was published by the Hong Kong Travel Association, with Hong Kong Baptist University's library dating it to around 1932 and calling it the earliest known Hong Kong travel poster. Their copy shows the harbor looking across toward Central and The Peak, with a Chinese sailing junk on Victoria Harbour, a motif that would recur in the city's travel posters for decades. In the early 1930s most visitors still arrived by ocean liner, stepping ashore beneath that same skyline.
