A flamenco dancer spins out of a dark background in this 1961 Iberia poster, her skirt swirling in a blur of color beneath the words "Spain" and "Jet DC-8." That year the airline introduced the Douglas DC-8, its first long-range jetliner, and it advertised the new aircraft alongside the most familiar image of Spanish culture. The contrast between the dancer's movement and the night-dark ground gives the design real energy, as though the music were still playing. It is a companion to Iberia's festival-horsemen poster of the same year. The artist is not recorded on our copy.
