THIS IS BAGGAGE runs in big cream letters across a charcoal band, angled between red corners, with the JAL logo and the words Japan Airlines in the lower right. A small code in the top corner, TS40117 (REV02-91), marks the printing. It is a later version of a label the airline had used for years, stuck on bags so they could be told apart from cargo. Japan Air Lines was formed in August 1951 and began international flights in 1954.
