Set on a warm orange background, this 1940s KLM poster advertises “Rondvluchten” – short sightseeing flights – from Luchthaven Zuid-Limburg, the airport serving the southern tip of the Netherlands that is known today as Maastricht Aachen Airport. An airliner climbs across the design, inviting locals to see their own province from the air. Joyrides like these were a popular way for airlines to introduce flying to people who had never been in an aircraft, and to build goodwill at regional airports.
