Okęcie opened on 29 April 1934 as Warsaw's Central Airport and was renamed Warsaw Chopin Airport in March 2001, in honour of the composer, though many still call it Okęcie. After the Second World War LOT Polish Airlines resumed operations there, and today it is the airline's central hub.
