"Reif für die Insel", ripe for the island, is the German way of saying you badly need a holiday. LTU turned the phrase into one of its red slogan stickers, with bold white lettering and the boxed LTU International Airways logo at the foot. Founded in 1955 as Lufttransport Union, the Düsseldorf-based airline flew generations of Germans to island resorts. Air Berlin acquired LTU in March 2007 and announced in 2008 that the LTU name would no longer be used.
