A cedar tree, the symbol of Lebanon, stands at the center of this red-orange roundel, ringed by the airline's name in Arabic script and "Fly MEA Middle East Airlines" below. MEA was founded on 31 May 1945 by Saeb Salam and Fawzi El-Hoss, with support from BOAC, and began flying on 1 January 1946 with de Havilland Dragon Rapides between Beirut and Nicosia. Still based in Beirut, it later merged with Air Liban. Travelers once received labels like this to paste on their luggage.
