A pale waterfall spills through a canyon in this 1940 poster by Harry Herzog, made under the WPA's Federal Art Project for the United States Travel Bureau. The "See America" campaign urged Americans to explore their own country, and the Library of Congress now holds this design among its New Deal posters. Federal Art Project artists turned out thousands of silkscreen posters in the late 1930s and early 1940s, promoting everything from public health to tourism. For the national parks, whose roads and lodges were being improved by New Deal crews, these posters helped fuel a boom in motor touring just before the Second World War.
