The Big Dipper and North Star of the Alaska flag wave at the center of this red roundel, crossed by a banner reading The Alaska Flag Line. Pacific Northern Airlines began on April 10, 1932, as Woodley Airways, founded by Arthur G. Woodley, and took the Pacific Northern name in 1945. Authorized to serve Seattle in 1951, it connected Alaska with the Pacific Northwest until it merged into Western Air Lines on July 1, 1967. Passengers bound north were given labels like this to put on their bags.
