A flying boat sweeps over the Golden Gate in this vintage-style poster art for Pan Am marking the 50th anniversary of the China Clipper. In November 1935 the Martin M-130 China Clipper left Alameda on San Francisco Bay to fly the first transpacific airmail route, hopping by way of Hawaii and other island bases to Manila. The Golden Gate Bridge was still under construction at the time, and images of the Clipper and the bridge together became one of the lasting icons of the Pan Am story. This is a modern restored rendering, and the artist of any original is not recorded here.
