The pairing of the two names places the design after the 1947 partition of British India, when Pakistan became a separate nation. This is a modern restored rendering, and the exact date and artist of any original are not recorded here. Pan Am named its airliners Clippers after the fast sailing ships of the nineteenth century, and the portrait approach used here, a single face standing for a whole region, was a favorite device of airline posters of the era.
