Night falls over Rio de Janeiro in this Pan American World Airways poster, "Fly to Rio by Clipper." Sugarloaf Mountain rises above the bay, a carnival dancer whirls in the foreground, and a flying boat glides across the dark sky. The artist is not recorded. Rio was one of the great prizes of Pan American's Latin American network, and the flying boat recalls the years when big Clippers landed on the water of Guanabara Bay. Carnival, the city's famous pre-Lenten festival, gives the scene its color and rhythm against the deep night blues.
