A royal barge with a soaring golden prow glides across a blue ground on this Pan Am poster, Thailand - Land of Beauty and Romance. The ornate barges, carved, gilded and rowed by long crews of oarsmen, appear in the Royal Barge Procession on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, one of the kingdom's grandest ceremonies. Pan Am added the country to its routes after the Second World War, and posters like this one sold its pageantry to American travelers. The artist and exact date are not recorded.
