Spiky agave and swaying palms fill this turquoise-toned poster inviting travelers to "Discover Puerto Rico U.S.A." The artist and exact date are not recorded in the sources we checked. The "U.S.A." in the title was a deliberate selling point: as a United States territory, Puerto Rico offered American travelers a tropical Caribbean island without the need for a passport or foreign currency. Through the mid-20th century the island's promoters leaned on that message in posters and advertisements, presenting its beaches, gardens and historic San Juan as an easy escape for visitors from the mainland.
