A gray-mustached piper plays his bagpipes before a castle while an SAS airliner crosses a bright yellow sky in this 1950s poster, "Fly SAS to Scotland". The lettering is styled to look like tartan, and the full slogan calls Scotland a "bonnie beginnin'" for an extra-city trip through Europe. The artist is not recorded. Scandinavian Airlines System, founded in 1946 by the airlines of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, flew its early North Atlantic services by way of Prestwick on Scotland's west coast, which made Scotland a natural first stop on the way to the Continent.
