Stan Galli (1912-2009) painted this Las Vegas poster for United Air Lines around 1960, when the Strip's resort hotels were selling desert sunshine by day and shows and casinos by night. A woman laughs from a sparkling swimming pool while the big hotels rise behind her against a hot red sky. Galli, a San Francisco native who spent his career in advertising art, made dozens of bright, modern destination posters for United in the 1950s and early 1960s; his work has since been shown at the Smithsonian and hangs in the Pentagon and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
