A graceful deer peers out from a thicket of pink rhododendrons in this Pacific Northwest poster, painted around 1960 by Stan Galli (1912-2009) for United Air Lines. Galli, who later became known for wildlife conservation paintings, brought a naturalist's eye to his airline work, and here he sells the region through its forests and flowers rather than its cities. The rhododendron is Washington's state flower. The poster belonged to a United campaign promoting destinations across the country, and Galli's designs for it remain among the most sought after by collectors.
