The claim had roots: Varig was founded in Porto Alegre on 7 May 1927 by German aviator Otto Ernst Meyer, and its first aircraft, the Dornier Wal flying boat Atlantico, was the first aircraft registered in Brazil. Passengers were handed stickers like this to put on their luggage on Varig's growing international network.
