Vincent (1848–1916) was an American traveler and writer whose book Actual Africa, or The Coming Continent was published by D. Appleton in New York in 1895, recounting his journey around and into the continent. Posters like this one promoted such travel accounts to a public hungry for news of places few Americans would ever see. It is a document of its era and of the way Africa was presented to Western readers in the 1890s.
