A Boeing 747 in Aer Lingus green, shamrock on the tail, flies inside a circle of lettering that reads "Like an Irish Village, Only Faster" - a gentle joke about the friendly, close-knit atmosphere on board. Aer Lingus took delivery of the first of its two 747s in March 1971 for its transatlantic routes, and the jumbo served the airline until 1995. This label, of the kind once handed out to passengers for their bags, captures the airline's good humour during the jumbo-jet era.
