Aeroflot's famous winged hammer and sickle, in pink-red, spreads across a globe on a split blue-and-yellow field, with the airline's name in both Latin and Cyrillic letters. Aeroflot traces its roots to Dobrolyot, formed in 1923, and the Aeroflot name was officially adopted in March 1932 for the whole Soviet civil air fleet. The winged emblem proved so recognizable that plans to replace it in the early 2000s were set aside. Passengers once received stickers like this for their luggage, a bold piece of Soviet-era design.
