On a striking black ground, an explorer in a pith helmet raises his binoculars to scan the horizon, while the slogan urges "Visitez l'Afrique en avion" – visit Africa by plane. Two different airlines carried the Air Afrique name. The first, the French state Régie Air Afrique, was set up in May 1934 and opened a mail route from Algiers to Niamey that September, adding passengers in 1935 before joining Air France in 1941. The second was the multinational Air Afrique founded in 1961 by eleven West and Central African states. The artist is not recorded.
