Edmond Maurus designed this "Europe" poster for Air France in 1948, a time when the airline was rebuilding its continental network after the war. Against a black ground, a montage of small scenes and landmarks from the cities Air France served across Europe is gathered together, with an airliner linking them overhead. Originals were printed by stone lithography by Goossens and are prized by collectors for their crisp color and charming vignettes. Maurus was known for his Art Deco-flavored aviation posters for Air France, and this design captures the postwar promise of a whole continent within a few hours' flight.
