Edmond Maurus (1903–1977) designed this 1940s Air France poster for "Afrique Equatoriale – Afrique Occidentale." Rays of sun light the desert in red, orange and yellow, silhouetting the earthen minarets of the Djinguereber Mosque in Timbuktu as an airliner passes overhead. Bold white Art Deco lettering and Air France's winged seahorse emblem complete the design. Maurus was one of the airline's regular poster artists, and his designs carried its message across Africa, the Atlantic and the Far East.
