Air France's 1959 "Grèce" poster distills the Greek islands into a few clean shapes: a whitewashed Cycladic house and its stepped stair, bright against a deep blue sky. The artist is not recorded in the sources we could check. The year was a turning point for the airline in the Mediterranean: on May 12, 1959, Air France inaugurated its European jet service with the Sud Aviation Caravelle on the Paris–Rome–Istanbul route, bringing the eastern Mediterranean closer to Paris than ever before.
