This 1950 Air France poster for India centers on a woman in a flowing white sari, framed by trees with a temple rising behind her under a deep blue sky. It is a graceful, painterly design from the years when long-haul air travel to Asia was still a rare adventure. The artist is not recorded in the sources we could check. Air France, formed in 1933 by merging several French airlines, commissioned artwork for each of its destinations, and its India posters through the 1950s helped introduce French travelers to the subcontinent.
