Vincent Guerra designed this 1948 Air France poster for "Afrique Occidentale – Afrique Equatoriale," French West and Equatorial Africa. In warm browns, a herd of elephants moves across the savanna while an airliner – a SNCASE Languedoc SE.161 – flies overhead, and the stylized forms nod to the traditions of African art. Guerra had made an earlier version in 1946 that showed Asian elephants with small ears; for this 1948 edition he redrew them as African elephants with their great fan-shaped ears.
