Two small Air New Zealand stickers still sit on their original cream backing sheet here, each marked '50th Anniversary' in blue and red beside a stylised emblem and the airline's name. Air New Zealand marked fifty years of commercial flying in 1990, counting from April 1940, when Tasman Empire Airways (TEAL) began Auckland-Sydney flights with Short S30 flying boats. New Zealand Post joined the celebration with an 80c stamp issued on 17 January 1990, showing a flying boat alongside a Boeing 747-200. Stickers like these were handed out to passengers to decorate their luggage.
