The same round-faced cartoon airliner seen on Air New Zealand's 'Flying Kiwi' sticker floats through the clouds here inside a deep green roundel, this time over the elegant lettering 'The Pride of the Pacific'. Air New Zealand grew from Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), founded in 1939 by the New Zealand, British and Australian governments. New Zealand took full ownership in April 1961, and the airline was renamed Air New Zealand on 1 April 1965. Cheerful stickers like this were handed to travellers to brighten up their suitcases.
