The kiwi, New Zealand's flightless national bird, makes the joke. Air New Zealand traces its story to Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), whose first Auckland-Sydney flying-boat services began in April 1940; the airline adopted the Air New Zealand name on 1 April 1965. Passengers were given stickers like this to put on their bags.
